How to invite people for Diwali

A great way to invite people for Diwali is a short, warm note sent about two weeks ahead. Include the date, the time to arrive, where you are gathering, and whether the evening includes puja, dinner, sweets, or sparklers. Guests should be able to say yes without a long chain of messages.

Lead with the welcome. “Join us for Diwali” is enough of an opening. Then give the day, the time, and the place on their own lines. A home puja, a terrace dinner, and an open house are different invitations, so say which one it is.

When should I send a Diwali invitation?

About two weeks before the evening is a comfortable time. Send it sooner if guests are traveling or if your night falls on the main day of Lakshmi puja, when many people already have plans.

What should a Diwali invite include?

The date, the time to arrive, the address, and what the gathering is. Add dinner, dress, or what to bring only when it would help someone say yes.

How do I invite people who live in another city?

Send the same note, and name the city in the first line. Give the date early so they can decide on travel, and keep the address easy to open on a phone.
